NEW YORK’S LATEST
WAVE OF SHAMELESSNESS. NEW YORK, Dec. 3. In the wave of shamelessness, New York is exhibiting more invitations to vice and immorality than ever in its history. The Yuletide season has been taken advantage of for propaganda Forbidden literature is boldly displayed, while toy shops are filled -with gambling devices, gangster equipment, and leering dolls. All through the city there is a concerted effort to make the Volstead liquor restrictions as unannoying as possible, and the erotic background is enveloping the usual Christmas atmosphere: ‘ The forbidden phonograph business is at and records hearing lewd after-dinner speeches are sold openly in scores of shops. Some art shops are dealing exclusively in nudes with prices to fit every pocket. Many of the Christmas card offerings deal with debauchery, instead of the traditional Santa Claus scenes. It is impossible, without visiting New York these days, to imagine the curr ent trend towards shamelessness. /
