The quality of the fat stock offered at the Metropolitan Market at Addington on Wednesday showed d : stinct signs of having suffered through the continued dry sppll. In the principal sections really first-class stock was scarce. The featue of the market was thi' shortage of fat lamhs. The entry was so small that butchers took c-burge of the sale from the opening and the freezing buyers were able to secure only a few pens. Prices; rose about 3s a head, butchers paying a full 6ld a pound for a portion of the:r purchases. The quality all over was not the best. In the fat cattle pens there was a shortage of fi'st-riass steer laef. The few pens of extra prime steers offered met keen competition at- prices 10s to £1 in advance of the rate ' ruling last wee-k. .. The fat sheep pens contained an entry slightly larger that that offered at the previous sale. In common with the other fat stock sections, the duality of the entry was not pariculaily good. There was keen competition for the best sorts, which srid at Is a head better than last week’s prices. The others showed no alteration. The yarding of veal was exceptionally large and graziers were able to buy freely as the offering was much larger than butchers’ requirements. Port was in over-supply and w"s cheaper, but good medium-Weight bacon pigs were in good demand and were dearer.
