The Christchurch “Times” says— Writing 'to Sir Henry Wigram two or three days before the recent general election, Mr S. Saunders, of '"Wellton, who for a quarter of a century occupied the editorial chair of the “Lyttelton Times” predicted that the approaching contest would result in the return of fifty Coalitionists, in eluding the four Maori members, and thirty Labourites and Independents in the ratio of twent-fonr and six. This was exactly the result with which the polling concluded. That it was great picking may be judged from another paragraph in Mr Saunder’s letter: “Yesterday,” it runs, “I moved round the interests of people . more closely concerned about the result of the polling than l am, and I was a little alarmed by the confidence cf the thirty group and the enxiety of the fifty. Coalition United have much less confidence than have Coalition Reformers, and personally X shall not be .surprised if Coates should emerge from the trial of strength with a parjv (still loyal to Coalition of course) with a majority of ten over Forbes.” This prediction also was realised. *
