UNEMPLOYMENT
47,096 ON REGISTER
(Tly Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 10. The number of unemployed men registered in New Zealand for the week ending December 10th. was 47,096, showing a decrease of 459 compared with the total for the previous week. The total included 33,446 men who were engaged under part time relief Schemes. There were 13,650. unemployed who were registered but were not placed on part time relief schemes. This last figure was greater by 1705 than the number who were unplaced a week earlier.
The registrations include the following : Men with dependents: 30,87 G, men without dependents, 16,220. The .men,,with dependents in the four main cities were:—Auckland 3255, Wellington 2841, Chritshcurch 3658, Dunedin 1751, The total for the four cities being 11.505.
The number of single men registered as unemployed in the four main cities was: —Auckland 2877, Wellington 2626. Christchurch 1497, and Dunedin 1663.
The total single men registered in these four cities was 8063. A continuous decline in the total of the registered unemployed has been recorded since the first week of October. It should be remembered, ho'vever, that the men placed in the single workers relief camps and that the men placed in employment on farms with a subsidy from the unemployment fund are not included in the registrations for which figures ar& given above. There are approximately 1060 men now- in the relief camps. There are some 6000 men employed in farms under '.subsidised schemes of the Unemployment Board.
