CHARLIE'S TALK
A contemporary scribe gives the reason why Mr Charles Chaplin, of "'bom you may have heard, refuses to talk over long distance telephone to Australia. Mr Chaplin was hilled to ring up an Australian newspaper peison, nud through him give a message to. the people of Australia. Midi -plin, it seems, was engaged at Lis end, at a moment when it was three of the morning in Australia. The tired newspaper man was, of course, in the arms of Morpheus, and did not hear the ring. Mrs. Pennib, however, did so, and she perhaps cither erabbilv went to the ’phone. “Yes, yes?” she said, “Mrs Pennib speaking. Who’s tlnere”.. And the answer came: “Charlie Chaplin this end. who is there?” “Oh, this is Mickey the Mouse,” said Mrs Pennib scarcastically hanging up the receiver.
