McCONAGHEY CHARGE
EVIDENCE BY WITNESSES. [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.j CHRISTCHURCH, December b. A witess gave evidence of seeing accused in Avon with a child which she seemed to be pushing towards the bank. He pulled both out. Accused said she had been driven to drowning herself by the man she was living with, and his mother. Albert- Francis at whose home accused bad been staying, said be .never ill treated her, but had spoken harshly to her at times. Leo’s mother said the girl often displayed bad temper. A. letter allegedly left by accused, and read in Court said —“I wish you all the best of luck with your lady love. Stick to lier and don’t treat her like you did me. Bubby and I .will, not stand in your life again.”
COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. ATTEMPTED SUICID K. CHRISTCHURCH, December 8. Gertrude McConaghey, 27, single, a domestic, was committed for trial by Magistrate Mosley on charges of attempting to commit suicide and attempting to murder her four-year-old son on November 26th by drowning, in the Avon.
