RAILWAY CHANGES
THE NEW MANAGER. (By Telegraph — Per Frets Association) WELLINGTON, December 5. The * Minister of Railways (Mr Forbes) announces that Mr H. H. Sterling retires from the position of 'General' Manager as from December 6th, and has been appointed chairman of the Railways Board from the same date, vice Colonel J. J. Esson who has resigned. Mr P. G. -Roussell; at present General ‘.Superintendent of Transport, has been appointed General Manager. The board announces that Mr H. Dennehy, assistant general manager who has retired on superannuation, will be succeeded "by Mr G. H. Mackley, chief clerk at tho railway head office. Mr Mackley, the new assistant general manager of railways, joined the service as a cadet- in the traffic office at ‘Otautau/ He was appointed station master at Deriot in 1913, and after holding similar appointments elsewhere, entered the district traffic manager’s office, Wellington, in 1920. He was chief clerk at Ohakune from 1925 to 1928, and was selected in o* 1928 to be chief clerk in the head office, Wellington. He has been engaged on special work for the department in connection with the Railway Ap- \ peal'Boards and also upon staff establishment matters. ! Mr E- Cfu’.oy will be chief engineer, Mr 'Widdop, retired on superannuation. | The board has also made the following appointments : /('The position of inspecting engineer in the Civil Engineering branch, at present held by Mr Bertinshaw, will be amalgamated with the position of assistant chief engineer, lately occupied by Mr Davidson, retired on superannuation, and Mr ‘Bertinshaw w.ll be promoted to the office. Mr ,H. W. Beasley, district engineer at Ohakune,' will “be district engineer at Auckland. Mr H. L. P. Smith, district engineer at Ohaqune," will be district eng n- ’’ eer at Wellington. Mr P. H.
