WESTLAND RACING CLUB
COMMITTEE MEETING. The Committee of the above Club met at 9 o’clock last evening. Preisent:—Mr J. J. Mclntosh (Presi- 1 dent), J. J. Breeze, C. J. P. Sellers, F. McGregor, D. J. Evans, J. Mclntosh jnr., A. W. Yarrall, J. Peake, ana M. H. Houston. Apology was matte for the absence of Messrs YV. E. Williams, H. Butland and H. C. Newman.
A quantity of correspondence was disposed of including letters from the New Zealand Pacing Conference notify" mg increase in the' refund of totalisator clubs and the President’s statement in respect thereto. The Department of Internal Affairs notified the issue of the totalisator license for the Christmas meeting, and the apoointnient of Mr A. A. Berley, of Christchurch, as Totalisator Inspector. It was reported Mr H. Lowry, of Tima.ru, would be the Stipendiary Stewart.
The Grey Disrict Racing Committee notified a grant of £ls for ambulance equipment to replace that lost by fire and the donation being recieved with thanks. The passing of the Christmas programme by the District Committee was notified also.
Mr Geo. Reed, Ricearton, accepted this position of starter for the forthcoming meeting. The resignation of F. Wall fts a member was accepted. The Committee approved the action of the President In granting r permission to put down tennis courts on behalf of a local Club. General arrangements for the forthcoming meeting were made. It was reported the course was in excellent order for the meeting, while the new stand which would prove in every way satisfactory for requirements, was approaching completion and would be out of the builders’ hands very shortly. The building was substantial and compact, and was being admired generally. The new judges’ box was atso biej|ng! completed immediately. Mr Yarrall notified the gift of a set of numbered saddle cloths. —Received with thanks. The Treasurer reported the receipt of several donations, to the Club’s fundls which had kept the bank account in credit. With entry fees and other receipts coming to hand it was hoped to maintain a credit balance till the accounts for the new stand come in. Other arrangements would then require to be made. Hie matter was deferred till after the Christmas meeting which it was hoped would return a surplus. The rebate on totalisator turnover is now doubled, and the local hotelkeepers had kindly offered to conduct the publicans’ booths for the benefit of the Club Tree of cost, and had arranged for several donations of wines, spirits, etc. so that a satisfactory reti#n might be expected, Appreciation was expressed at all the practical assistance being rendered the Club,
NOMINATIONS FOR CHRISTMAS
The Secretary laid on. the table the list of nominations for the'Christmas Meeting opening on Boxing Day. The list totalled 216 as against 228 last year This year there were 67 horses entered, and good fields would he assured. Several North Island owners were patronising the meeting, wltn good contingent from Canterbury. The weights for the first day were due next Friday, and the acceptances the following Friday. The meeting augured well for a very successful gathering. Before the meeting closed the health of the new President (Mr Mclntosh) was drunk, and the compliment acknowledged, Mr Mclntosh expressing thanks for kinds wishes, and stating there was every promise of a very successful race gathering at the approaching meeting.
