DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. (By Telegraph—ter Press Association> WELLINGTON, December 5. Fourteen entries have been received for th'e annual tourney to decide the chess championship of New Zealand, commencing at Napier on Boxing Day. They .include the present champion, Gyles, of Wellington, five ex-champions, X. N. Gunderson (Melbourne). Purdy (N. iS.W.), Ers.:ine (Southland), Grcreson (Auckland), Xelling (Wellington). Others are Severn? (Nelson), Scott (Wanganui), and Smith (Napier), the champions of their respective Clubs, a iso Maddox and Miller, ex-champions of the Auckland Club. The entry is the strongest since the (Dunedin Exhibition Congress six years ago, and a higher standard of piay than usual is looked for.
