On the grounds that assistance was allegedly given to Blind Institute inmates to mark their voting papers, there is a chance that steps may be taken to upset the election ot Mr F. W. Schramm, for Auckland 'East. WELLINGTON, December 3. The Rotorua returning officer now reports that there are 516 absentee votes, and 53 postal votes, which cannot he opened until the conclusion ot the official count. That will be about •tM V-nd of next week. Owing to transport difficulties, all the ballot boxes will not be received before next Monday, and after, that 4he official count is expected to take four days. DUNEDIN, December 2. Of absent votes in Dunedin Central electorate, there are 454. Postal votes number 148 and seamen’s rights M. These bring the total yet to be counted to 623 absent votes. These may' affect the result. The present figures are ; Hon. Sir Chas. -Statham (1), 5010, P. Neilson (Lab.) 4919, Majority 91. CHALMERS. DUNEDIN, December 3. In the Chalmers electorate there remain to be counted 480 absent votes, also 30 postal votes, and the seamen’s votes total 14, making a -total of 574.. These may affect the result. OPINION IN AUSTRALIA. ANTI-LABOUR’S SATISFACTION. (Received this .Hay, at o 8 n .ttu) _ SYDNEY, December 3. The outcome of the New Zealand elections has been received with considerable satisfaction in anti-Labour circles in Australia. All the political parties engaged in the present Federal election campaign were looking forward to tho Dominion figures, and Coalition’s heavy majority was featured in all the chief newspapers.
