WEST COAST TEAM

GREYMOUTH, December 1

Under the management of Frank Bell, a team of boxers from Greyinouth, wilt make a ‘trip to Bienheim to take part in a tournament to- be held there on December sth. 1 The. team consists of Harry Lister, Tommy Croft and Mick Howson, Frank Bell is also boxing and J. Keeney will be assistant second for the team. .

The professional bout will be between Harry Lister (11.6) and Joe Tieney, Marlborough (11.10), who will be making his professional debut. (Lister will have i'ess disadvantage in reach than he has had on oft her occasions, and hi? trainer js confident of success. The bout will be of fifteen two-minute rounds and the purse will be on percentage basis. ■ Tom Croft (11.1) will be meeting Alex Dasler (11.3) the Marlborough middle-weight champion in six twominute rounds. Marlborough fans are under the impression that Dasler can beat Croft, but Croft is fit, hitting hard, and Dasler has a very difficult task to carry out. Mick Howson (10.2) will be meeting Jack Simmons (10.8) welter champion of Marlborough. Howson is boxing better than ever and though against a heavier, and more experienced boxer, he is lexpeoted to hold his own. Frank Bell (12.1) will be matched against the Marlborough heavyweight champion, Charlie Simmons (13.10). Bell has had trouble Avith his hands for some time and this has kept him out of the ring, but he is hoping to get through without injury on this occasion.

It will be noticed that all the West Coast boys wi/1 be conceding weight to their opponents, Bell will be giving away over a stone and a-half. All are fit and hopeful of victory. The team leaves next Friday .morning.

DELANEY BEATS TROWERN

WELLINGTON, November 29

Bobby Delaney, lightweight champion of Australia, turned the tables on Reg. Trowern,. of Whangarei, before a large audience at the - Winter , Show ■Stadium on Saturday night. Trowern scaled to 10st Ojlbs, to Delaney’s 9st 111 b, but the Sydney lad, well trained, started off at a surprising pace and kept shooting a left hook to the head. He also ripped a left to the solar plexus several times. Trowern was extremely lucky to w'eather the fifth round. Opening with a fusilade of blows, Delaney had his man so groggy that Trowern momentarily lowered his guard and Delaney dropped him for eight with right and left swings to the head. It Was only Trowern s ability to take punishment thait enabled him to see the round out. Trowern came strongly in the closing rounds, but Delaney showed skilled ringcraft and met him with straight lefts and left hooks. The judges agreed in a verdidt for Delaney, but a section of the house did not take this kindiy.
