Mrs Margaret- Cash man, of Wiluna, won £13,000 when Paid ran third in the Manchester Handicap. She arrived from Cork five years ago. Her husband was in ill health, and she was compelled to take a job as housekeeper. -She lias experienced a lot of adversity. BOOKMAKER’S BIG WIN. LONDON. November 29. A man who benefited from the November Handicap was Mr J. T. Downing, bookmaker, the owner of Normdrift, who made fifty thousand sterling. He always had confidence iff the horse’s chance, especially in muddy going. He acquired shares in several of the Irish Sweep tickets. The news of Downing’s investments spread over the courses shortly before the race, resulting iff great excitement, the price coming dowii considerably in a few minutes.
