BURGLARS ACTIVE
QUANTITY of GOODS STOLE*. ASHBURTON, November 2b. Two shops in Wills Street East, were entered by thieves and a quantity of goods stolen. At a confectionary shop, owned by Air New, there was evidence that an attempt had been made to force the hack door, but that being unsuccessful, the burglars gained access through tne front entrance by bursting the catches on the double doors. A shovel, which it is surmised was used by the thieves in their efforts to effect an entrance, was found at the rear of the premises. It is estimated that about £4 worth of confectionery was taken from jars and in boxes from the shop. The other premises entered were those of Mr A. Wilkie, a; butcher. The back door was hurst open and several hams were stolen.
