LATE LOCALS.
During the past week an organised effort has been made bv the Hokitika District Prospecting Association in ‘the matter of enlisting the aid of the public by the granting of donations. To date the sum of £sl odd has been received, excluding members’ subscriptions.
A reply has been received from the Minister of Mines, Hon. D. Joiies, by the Hokitika District Prospecting Association to its letter soliciting the Department’s assistance by way of a grant to enable if to put its proposals into effect. The' reply is to the effect that tlie Minister will give the request his earnest consideration.
