IRISH SWEEP
INCREASED STARTERS. IN ENGLISH RACES, (United Press Association.— By Electrio Telegraph.—Co >yright.) LONDON, November 25. The effect of the Irish Sweepstakes in unduly increasing the fields for the races on which the 'Sweeps are held is perturbing racecourse officials. Sporting writers suggest that the Jockey Club should intervene. * There will be at least. forty-three runners in the Manchester November Handicap, on .which the present Ir:sh Sweep is being held. Ten were removed when the final acceptances were received.
It is a record field for this race, though it was eclipsed by the sixty-six starters in the Grand National in 1929.
There may be 80 horses in the Grand National race'in March next, which is an occasion on which there will be an Irish Sweepstake.
A, number of horses would rot have been included in the Manchester November Handicap, but for the Sweep. The large number will result in an unwieldiness of the field, and a preponderating element of luck.
