GENERAL CABLES

SPANISH DEPORTATIONS.

l United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.;

MADRID, November 24. A priest and two others have been sentenced to deportation to the Island of Fernandopo and others have been fined in connection with a recent plot when the ex-Dictator’s son, Senor Jose de Rivera, was arrested and released. The conspiracy, concerning which, however, there is much mystery, is said to have been religious and political, rather than monarcliial and designed to shake the present Government. „„ , NEW GOVERNORS. rt ' CALCUTTA , November 24, • Three New Indian Governorships have been approved by the King and are announced as follows:—Sir John Anderson is to succeed Sir Stanley Jackson as Governor of Bengal; Sir Janies Sifton succeeds Sir Hfugli Stephenson; and Mr Michael Keane, who was the- first President of the Reformed Indian Legislative Council, succeeds Sir Laurie Hammond as the Governor of Assam, All of the choices are regarded as very sound. Most interest attaches to Sir J: Anderson, whose appointment breaks the tradition of sending British political figures to govern Indian Presidencies'. The retiring Governors all finish their terms of office during the early months of 1932.
