EDUCATION CUTS
ON ADMINISTRATIVE SIDE (By Telegraph—Per Press AssociationJ WELLINGTON, Nov. 24. By the retirement of Senior Officers in the Education Department, an annual saving of £13,000 is being effected. Economies made so far in the Department are almost entiiely advir.istrative in ndture, and do not affect the direct teaching of children. The Department, in a letter, urges the Education Board’s to effect allpossible . economies., The Department announces that 23 officers are being dismissed altogether. The retireents include:— ’ Assistant-Director of Education, Mr, A. Bell, salary £900; Assistant-Chief Inspector and Administrative Senior Inspector, J. A. Cowles, £7l-5; three staff senior. Inspectors, including J. Robertson of Auckland (£750) and N. R.. McKenzie of Taranaki (£715) ; six staff Inspectors at £665 each; of the School of Music, B. D. Taylor (£750; Assistant-Control-ling Officer of the Buddings branch, I,' Davey (£590) and fen other administrative officials. None of these positions are being filled. The former Chief Physical Instructor, H. E. Longworth, is acting as Instructor onlv. '' N\ . ' '
All those salaries quoted have been reduced by , approximately ten per cent. This 'is in accordance ‘/with the cut. The " saving on these “ sialaries rhd retirements is officially assessed
