WORLD FINANCE

SIR JOSIAH STAMP’S ADVICE.

LONDON, November 7

An outspoken interview with Sir Josiah Stamp appears in the Paris newspaper, “L’Ordre.”

“London,” he says, “cannot remain the great discount centre with continual fluctuations of her currency. This is not an advantage to the United States and France, neither of which is equipped for such business. France knows her own business, but not that of the world. Thus .it is important to England and the world that tne convenience of sterling bills should not he lost, even at the risk of displeasing France. Ido not conceal tne fact that we shall not feel secure while gold moves irresponsibly all over the globe. If you wish us to return to the gold standard, you must discuss gold questions in conference. Even if inter-allied debts can be desirably cancelled it is indispensable to arrive at agreement on gold distribution, and remedy the chaos of exchanges.”
