ASTRAY IN CLOUDS
TWO DANN EVHIKE PILOTS. (Dominion Special Service). PALMERSTON N., November 18. Two pilots of the Dannevirke Aero Club, Messrs A. 'Howarth and L. A. iWillioombe, while returning from a tr p to Wanganui in aeroplanes belonging to the club, were lost in the clouds and obliged to make forced landings. On their return journey H from Wanganui the two pilots followed the railway line until they lost sight of it on account of Intervening clouds. A line, which proved to be the Main Trunk, was picked up, but its 'identity was not established until Hunterville was reached. Here the two aeroplanes became separated, and Mr Howarth, alter scouting for the other aeroplane, set a course for Marton, landing in a field at Cliff Road. ■ Replenishing hi.s petrol supply, Mr Howarth set out for Palmerston North, where he landed, on the Milson Aerodrome, which was almost invisible in the semi-darkness. Mr Willicombe, it is understood, landed in a field at Waituna and damaged a wing.
