THURSDAY, NOVEMBER .19th
Thi evening, IYA -.il broad st a ’studio concert to which Dr Dennis ■Sheal'd, the popular Australian tenor, will be contributing. Misses Phyllis and Edna Tye will provide mezzo-soprano arid pianoforte numbers,, respectively. A first class programme will be presented by the Salon Orchestra and there will be a topical talk by Mr A. B. Chappell. The main portion of the vocal programme from 2YA this evening will be given by the Aeolian Male Quartet, who will be heard in quartettes, duets and' solos. Also on the programme will be Miss Evelyn M. Robinson (contralto). The Salon Orchestra will supply incidental music amd selected electrical recordings will be included in the .programme.
Dr J. Hight, Rector of Canterbury iCollege, will be the lecturer on 3YA’s International Programme, speaking on “New Zealand—American Relationships.” Silent day at 4YA.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20th
A Spelling Bee for adults, promoted by the IYA Musical and Dramatic Committee, will take place at IYA this evening. This will be on the lines of a previous competition which provided great interest and entertainment. The adjudicator will be Mr A. B. Chappell, M.A. Prizes of two guineas and one guinea will be awarded. During the evening, items will be given by The 'Whisker Instrumental Quartet Mi ss A dele Taylor (soprano) and Mr Frank Woodward (baritone).
2YA will relay from Marton, a concert to be given by local artists assisted by 2YA artists. The Orchestrina, under the conductorship of Signor A. P. Truda, will supply the incidental music, and items will be given by Signor Lucien Cesaroni\(basso), Mrs G. Holloway (violiniste), Mrs A. P. Truda (soprano), Messrs Saunders and Todd (mandolin duo),i Mr W. J. Stevens (cornetist), Miss A. Mountfort (mezzo-soprano), Mr Len Ashton (humour), Mrs A. Wright (piarfiste) and Mr Claude Tanner (’cellist). Featured on 3YA’s programme this evening will be a lecture-recital by Mr T. Isamu Kaw.ase on “Japanese Folk Music.” The evening’s concert will be provided by |Miss Frances Hfemerton {soprano), Mr A. G. Thompson (baritone), Mr 'Hamilton Dickson (’cellist) and the Studio. Octet, under Mr Harold Beck.
Ventriioqiiial humour figures on this’ evening’s programme at 4YA and will be presented by Mr H. L. McEggers. Mr Noel H. North, a popular baritone, makes • bis reappearance after a lapse of some time and will present popular numbers. Mr Ted Heaney, an artist on the piano-accord eon, has procured a most valuable instrument and will play it on this occasion. A popular old miai-oh, ‘Blaze Away,” will be played by ■Mr W. J. Sinton, xylophonist, in addition to “The Whistler and his Dog" and "Rove’s Old Sweet Song.” Mr James A. Paterson is presenting au item of bright humour. Mrs D. Oarty and Miss Mary Somerville will sing.
