FARMERS’ LOSSES

DROUGHT IN WA IRA RAPA

CAUSING GREATEST CONCERN

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association )

WELLINGTON, November 19

Farmers in the Wairarapa district are facing a serious situation, owing to the prolonged dry spell.

Although the summer months have hardly started yet, the pastures are already drying up, and the hay crop has suffered badly owing to the dryness of the ground.

It is impossible to sow supplementary crops, and this, on top of falling prices on the home market, is causing the greatest concern. Heavy rain is wanted badly, but, even if its comes within the next few days, it may be too late to save farmers, whose losses are running into thousands of pounds.
