An unfortunate accident occurred in Mill Street, Westport, about noon on Tuesday, when Mr Jas. Wall, Sm\, Was riding his bicycle along the road and a small dog rushed out and became entangled with the machine, causing the irider to fall heavily and sustain a fractured th-gh. Kahawai are prevalent in the Grey (River just now, and on Tuesday, says the Grey 'Star, one fisherman, trailing a line behind a "flatty,’’ caught 53, These fish terrorise the whitebait, causing the latter to be exceptionally shy, and refrain from coming close jpto the bank. The result is that the whitebait fishermen are robbed of good catches. Including boys, there are approximately 200 whitebaiters fishing in the Grey River. Some 100 are unemployed workers, and during the past two weeks the'ir income has ben greatly augmented by the good run of bait in the river.

The Rev. Canon Staples Hamilton, vicar of St. Matthew’s who is about to retire, wa s met by the staff and pupils of the St. Matthew’s Victory Memorial School on Monday and was presented with an electric table reading lamp and a gold pencil. Canon Hamilton has been chairman of the Victory School Committee since the school was opened in 1922 and, as vicar of the parish, has frequently undertaken the duty of opening the school in the morning with a,.short religiou s service and instruction to senior pupils. #

The New Zealand Railways is issuing a liberal train time table for the lioli-day season. Affecting the Midland service, daily trains will run from December 19 to January 9, while from January 11 to February 6j ah extra, train will run on Mondays, ih addition to the ordinary three services. For the rush days on December ll), 23 and 24, and. January 2, relief trains will rim from Grey mouth and Christchurch respectively in addition to the ordinary express* services on those days. The. wedding was solemnised yesterday morning at 'St. Patrick’s Church, Greymouth, of Katharine Doris, second daughter of Mr and Mrs F. McGirr, Tainui 'Street, to John Thomas, second son of Mr and Mrs T. Hilton, Eewanui. 'Nuptial Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Holohan. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a 'frock of ivory crepe satin, with embroidered veil and wreath. .She carried a sheaf of cream and pink roses. The bridesmaids, Misses Peggie and Vonnie McGirr, sisters of the Bride, wore frocks of green and pink crepe de chine respectively, and wore black crinoline hats with shoes to tone. There were two flower-girls, Lorna l McGirr, a sister of the bride, and Trissie Burgess, who wore frocks of mauve and pink satin respectively. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Druids’ Hall, where the guests were received by Mrs McGirr, who wore a frock of .navy crepe-de-chine, relieved with marigold, and a navy hat, and by Mrs Hilton who wore a black silk frock and black silk coat. Mr and Mrs John Hilton will leave tomorrow' for Christchurch and Auckland, the bride’s travelling dress being a frock of nut-brown silk marocain, with hat and shoes to tone.
