' Mounting the pavement at Levin, a car owned by Mr L. McGreevy, of Wanganui, commenced to nun back, when a loud report was heard under the engine, part of which had exploded. Pieces of metal dropped all over the road and pavement, and flames shot from out of the crankcase. Mr McGeevy and experts were unable to account for the explosion., It l i s supposed that gas from the engine had been forced into the crankcase, and in some way had ignited when the car'bit the kerbing of the footpath,
