WATCHMAN BATTERED

WELLINGTON SENSATION. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON. November 17. Shortly after two o’clock this morning Mr M. Juriss, a watchman, employed by the Wellington City Council wns attacked, and severely battered about the head by two men whom he found in the act of ransacking the Electricity Department’s Accounts Office. 'Lhe men escaped after attacking Juriss with sandbags or pieces of pipe, and knocking him unconscious. Juriss who suffered concussion, and minor .injuries to his lace and- hands was removed to the Hospital, hut was well enough to return .home to-day. Although a number “of drawers in the office were forced open by the thieves, they succeeded in obtaining onl v a few shillings, belonging to a member of the staff.
