RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.} MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16th. Alfred Hill will be the subject of the ■‘-Musjcal Portrait” at 2YA on Monday, Nov 16. It is thirty-five years ago—on November 18, 1896—that Hill’s cantata, “Hinemoa,” was performed for the first- time in Wellington. His song, “Waiata Poi.” is probably the most popular of his smaller works and it will be sung to-night by the composer’s brother, the well known Wellington tenor, Mr Edwin J Hill, as well as two newly-written sprig? “Sweet Maori Maid” a love song, and “Her Little iflaxen Skirt” a poi song. These have been dedicated to his brother and specially scored for the 2YA Orchestrina by Alfred Hill himself. Hill’s “Miniature Trio” and part of his “Maori Quartet for Strings” will be played by the Oicbestrinai. Also on the evcriingjs programme will be Signor Lucien Cesaloni (basso), who will present a programme of duets and /solos with his Operatic Trio, consisting of Signora Aida Bulmas, (soprano), Miss Eileen Hughes (mezzo-contralto) and himself. “Straight and Crooked Thinking,” a ■W.'E.A. talk at 3YA, will be given by Dr C. E. Beeby, of Canterbury College. 3YA will, to-night be relaying from he Scottish Hall, Timaru, a concert given under the auspices- of the Youth Welfare League, by the Timaru Boys’ High School. A very varied programme will be presented, comprising tenor and bass solos, duets, quartettes, glees, sea chanties, band selections, an eccentric dance and a gymnastic display. “•Russia’s Conquest of Siberia” will be the subject of the International talk at 4YA, to be given by Mr Owen E. Davies. Silent day at IYA.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17th. On .lYA’s International Programme this evening, Professor C. R. Knight, Professor of Architecture at Auckland tUini vtirsitv, will speak on “Modern Architecture.” A studio concert of the popular type will-be broadcast by 2YA. Mr Noho Toki, the well known Maori tenor, will delight listeners with “Maire My Girl,” “LL-vmour Toujours L’Amour,” ‘‘Danny (Boy” and “When You are There.” Mrs E. F. Hollands (soprano) will sing four popular songs. Airs Alildred Kenny s Guitar Orchestra will be heard, in a budget of snappy and up-to-date melodies. The Salon Orchestra will supply incidental music, and selected electrical recordings will be included in the evening's programme. The Green Island Alunicipal Band will provide a popular concert programme at 4YA. Assisting vocalists will be 'Miss Evelyn Shepard (soprano), Airs B. ,C. Roberts i(contralto) -and Mr E. Ottrey (baritone). - Thi-s will be Mr Ottrey’s- first appearance before the microphone and, being the possessor of an exceptional voice, he will be an acquisition to the ranks of 4YA artists. ,Silent day at 3YA.
