Mr V. H. Potter,' who formerly was Reform member for Eden, has definitely decided to stand in the same electorate. tie is standing as an Independent, favouring one 1 National Party. Anderson (Labour), and Mr V. H. Potter (Independent).
AIR ATcLEOD’S DECISION.
AfASTERTON, November 13
In a statement issued to-night, Mr A. D. McLeod (former Reform Minis-
ter) has intimated that; in response to numerous and insistent- demands that ha ‘should contest the Wairarapa seat, he ha-s agreed to do so. Mr McLeod stated that it was not without considerable hesitation, and full consideration, that lie had so decided; but lie was in. agreement with those Reformers who considered that it was a very one-sided method of standing to a pact if the Reform Party was expected to pull out its candidates for stick rural seats aia Mata uni, ’Wairarapa, AVaitomo and AVaipawa, while strong United candidates continued in. the contests for Clutha, Temuka, Mid-Canterbury, and Riccarton. AVELLINGTON, November 13. Announcing that he was withdrawing his candidature for the AVellington South seat, Mr S. T. S. .Martin, who had been announced as an Independent, stated this -evening that he , considered the Coalition Government had made a wise .selection in nominating Mr AVill Appleton. A deputation this afternoon waited upon Mr Martin Luckfe, asking him to stand for AVellington South, which he contested unsuccessfully at the last election. Mr Luckie has decided to leave the field clear for Mr Appleton to have a straight-out contest with Mr AlcKeen, the Labour Member for AA T ellington South.
AIR YOUNG’S CANDIDATURE
CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 13,
Mr H. It. Young, of AVestpo-rt, is to be the official Coalition candidate for Avon. Air Young is a civil engineer by profession, and is a director of several companies. He had intended taking up his residence in Christchurch, and he is now; moving here immediately.
DARGAATjLLB, November 13. A meeting of Reform and United ■supporters in the northern end of the Kaipara electorate, met last night, and decided to work together for the return of Air Coates the Coalition candidate for Kaipara, and also passed a resolution that United and Re* form supporters affirm their support of the Coalition policy and desire to express the earnest hope that in those electorates where dissension at present exists, wiser counsel may prevail, thus enabling a strong Coalition party to he returned in- the national interests.
A strong combined election committee' was set up. Air Coates arrives in the district- on Alonday, and will address seven meetings in the northern end on that day and Thursday. AVELLINGTON, November 13.
Mr G. A. Troup, Coalition candidate Wellington N T orfh, addressed the electors. He said that between the policies of Labour Party and Coalition, there was a great gulf. The common weal demanded that all must participate' in any adjustments made. The Coalition Party had laid down a policy of re-adjustment of expenditure to meet the reduced income of tne Dominion. In future it might be necessary to balance New Zealand’s budget out of revenue aloneA vo*te< of confidence was carried. PARLIAMENT PROROGUED. TILL NEXT FEBRUARY. WELLINGTON, November 13. It is understood there is some likefi hood of there being a session early next year .unless the economic snuntion shows improvement, hut in the meantime Parliament at present stands prorogued until February 4th., though this date will not neeessartry he the date when Parliament will* meet, the custom being to fix a date for the re-assembling of Parliament and then to postpone it until the required time It is understood tha. if the Confition were returned, the Cabinet would he increased to thirteen or fourteen members, in order to relieve pressure of administrative work in the present reduced Cabinet of ten.
