SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14th. A concert- by the Auckland Municipal Band, under the conductorship of Mr George Buckley, will be relayed from the Auckland Town Hall this evening. Of particular interest on ,the Band’s programme will be “Oberon,” “The Switch-back,” “Pas des • Patineurs” and “The Mill in the Black Forest.”
In 2YA’s studio concert, the Salon Orchestra, will play ‘‘Russian Fantasia,” “Miniature Suite” (the soloist being Mr M. T. Dixon), “Fantasia on the Blue Danube,” “Ballad Memories” and the latest dance’novelties. The vocal portion will be given by the Lyric Quartet (who will he heard in quartettes and -solos) and Miss Gwladys Edwardes (soprano) who will sing “The Red Sarafan,” “Sacrament” (with violin obligato), “The Gypsy Wedding,” and “You are My Darling.” The singers on 3YA’-s variety programme will be Miss Phyllis Coombs, Miss Belle Renaut, and Mr Thomas Cooper (bass)', ail singing popular numbers. The Two Rascals and their Rascalettes, vaudeville entertainers, will provide light amusement. There will be cornet solos by Mr It. ohi.son and the programme by the Christchurch Salon Orchestra, under Mr Francis Bate, will include the selections “Merrie England” and Squire’s “Popular Songs.”
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16th. I Alfred Hill will be the subject of the “Musical Portrait” at 2YA on Monday, Nov.' 16. It is thirty-five years ago—*on November 18, 1896—that Hill’s can-’ tata, “Hinemba,” was performed for the first time in' Wellington. His song, “Wai-ata Poi,” is probably the most popular of his smaller works and it will be sung to-night by the composer’s brother, the- well known Wellington tenor, Mr Edwin J Hill, as well as two newly-written. songs “Sweet Maori Ma,id” a love song, and “Her Little Flaxen -Skirt” a poi song. These have been dedicated to his brother and specially scored for the 2YA Orchestrina by Alfred Hill himself. Hill's “Miniature Trio” and part of his “Maori Quartet for Strings” will be played by the Also on the eveningfs programme will be 1 Signor Lucien Cesaloni (basso), who will present a pro„gramme of duets and solos with his Operatic Trio, consisting of Signora Aida Bulmas, (soprano), Miss Eileen Hughes (mezzo-contralto) and himself. “Straight and Crooked Thinking,” a W.'E.A. talk a:t 3YA, will be given* by Dr C. E. Beeby, of Canterbury College. sr'A will to-night- be relaying from ihe Scottish Hall, Timaru, a concert given under the auspices of the Youth Welfare League, by the Timaru Boys’ .High School. A very varied programme will be presented, comprising tenor and bass solos, duets, quartettes, glees, sea chanties, band selections, an eccentric dance and a gymnastic display. ‘(Russia’s Conquest of Siberia” will be the subject of the International talk at 4YA, to be given by Mr Owen E. Davies. Silent day at IYA.
