PAKURA STRANDING
PRELIMINARY INQUIRY. (By Telegraph,—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 13. A preliminary inquiry, into the grounding of the steamer Pakura on a rock at Tora Landing, near Marti nborough, has been completed and the evidence is being considered by the -Marine Department. There are. 24 plates to be renewed, also the framing and the floors under the -stokehold. About 31 feet of the keelson have to be renewed. The .boiler cradles were damaged and the boilers thrown askew. It is asserted that when she arrived after tile tow, the vessel had fourteen feet of water in the engine room and it was because of the strong watertight bulkheads that the vessel kept afloat. ■
