DAMAGES AWARDED
£3OO IN SLANDER i CASE. (fiy Telegraph—Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, .November 11. A verdict for the pkiptiff, who. was awarded £3OO damages, was given by •a jury yesterday in a case in which Eorbes Eadie, of Mount Albert, claimed £SOO from Wilfred E. Begbie, engineer to the Mount Albert Borough Council, for damages for slander. Plaintiff alleged that defendant declared that when Eadie was clerk of works in charge of a council contract he sold a quantity of soil to a ratepayer, for which he received a cheque, and‘the money had not been paid to ,tlie Council.
It vvas further alleged that Begbie said that plaintiff had stolen a shrub from a property in Asquith Avenue.
