METHODIST SYNOD
YESTERDAY'S SESSION,
GREYMOUTH, November 12
The open session of the Synod was held yesterday. Expressions of condolence were tendered the relatives of the following well-known members of the New Zealand Church, whose deaths occurred recently: Revs. \Y. Greenslado, J. J. Lewis, T. G. Brooks, and George Bond (last week), and Mr W. H. Wise and W. Baumber.
The Chairman referred to the gambling aspect of art unions. He said that when he recently bought a new suit, he enquired about discount and was .asked whether lie would prefer an art union" ticket or a cash discount. Needless to say, he did not choose the ticket.
The morning session was mostly occupied with statistical matters. The Sunday School reports received were very encouraging, and in the Grevmouth circuit alone the membership had increased from 133 to 450, while that of the Runanga School had increased in the same period from 33 to 111.
Rev. U. 'Kings was re-elected as 'Secretary of the Synod for the ensuing year and Rev. G. E. Brown was elected as Nelson district representative to the 'Stationing Committee .at the annual conference in February, 1932. It was decided that the next annual Synod be held at Richmond.
Last evening a conversazione was held, after which a short concert programme was rendered. The visitors expressed their best thanks to the people of Greymouth for the wonderful hospitality extended them during their stay.
