& SCHOOLBOY’S KNOWLEDGE. I SURPRISE FOR LORD BLEDISLOE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association j CHRISTCHURCH, November 10. “I am now going to talk about vitamines. I don’t suppose any of you have heard about vitamines,” said the Governor-General. Lord Bledisloe, when addressing Selwyn House School chil* , dren yesterday morning. Just ns lie was about to continue his Excellency noticed that a small boy in the back row had his hand up. ‘‘Please vitamine A is what we get from meat, vitamine B is from vegetables, and I do not know yet about vitamines C and D,” he said very distinctly. Lord Bledisloe looked somewhat astonished. “That is John Pocock, the son of Professor Pocock,” said Mr A. K. Firth, acting-Chairman of the board. “Well done,” commented bis Excellency. “I should advise you children to listen to Pocock on this subject. He knows quite a lot about it.” Later, when leaving the school, his Excellency stepped before the boy as he stood ip line and said he would like to buy him a book to celebrate liis visit to the school. 'Hie lad suggested “ ‘Tom Sawyer,’ by Mark Twain, you know,” and the Goveimor-Geheftil and the seven-year-old schoolboy chatted for a few moments about books. The boy agreed to leave the choice of the book in his Excellency’s hands.
