Jean Houyet, a young multi-mil-lionaire bachelor was sentenced to twelve years at Devil’s Island, followed by twenty years banishment, for murdering Paulette Robida, Ids mistress, in a taxi cab in a fit of jealousy. t Houyat gave evidence that the jolting of the ear had prevented lifs taking his own life.
