SH'OOLBOY’S GREAT RUN. P[}y Telegraph — Pe. Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 4. A Technical School hoy, C. H. Matthews, aged 17, at the combined secondary school sports to-day ran, a mile in 4 min. 30 15 sec. The previous (school record in Christchurch was 4.46, and the best previous time for the mile at school sports is recorded was 4.31 4-5, made in England in 1929. AH- 1 thews ran the last three laps alone, and won by 150yds. [At the Technical College Slportts held last month, Matthews recorded 4 min 37 sees, for a mile, reducing the College record by about half a minute.] LONDON, November 3. At- Oxford University Sports, Lee Steere won the final of the senior low hurdles in 27 2 5 secs. He also won the senior long ■ jump with 20 feet 4f inches. A Queen slander, Mahoney, won me final of the senior half-mile foot-race, in 2- min. 22 5 secs. Lovelock won the freshmen’s half-mile footrace in 2 min. 3 3-5 secs.
