The bodies of the Bowhill victims were recovered after twenty-four hours rescue- work at a depth of 1500 feci; under the surface. Volunteers hercdally crawled on hands and knees through debris and in foul aUmos phere, many being partially overcome by gas. Canaries, which- were taken, down to test tlie air died.
