There was a. big attendance, including a Vow -ew Zealanders at the V.R.O., Spring Meeting at Fleinington yesterday. ; Oratorjan. * was lucky .to beat Picatus in the Maiden -Plate. The. latter finished fast. The rider, Ashley Reed won this event on Land of Ned.

Phar Lap had an effortless win in the Melbourne Stakes. He has now won £56,410. Concentrate battled ga'mely in the race. This is rider Pike’s fourth win in the Melbourne Stakes. His first success was in 1910 on Son of Marsh.

Jonnie Jason finished brilliantly to win the Derby. This was the rider’s, Pike’s, fourth successive win in these

races, and hjs sixth Victorian Derby

success. P,iko stated after the a*ifcxi that Jonnie Jason was always going well, and he, thought he had a great chance a long way from home. M.
