BUTCHER’S HOAX
STORY OF ASSAULT UNTRUE.

WANGANUI, October 30
On Tuesday morning William HenrV Symons, a butcher of Wanganui East reported to the police that at 6.30 that morning, pepper was thrown in his face by ’ a person hiding behind the door of the shop, tlmt he was assaulted and robbed of £l4.
As a sequel to the story, Det-eetive Murray arrested Symons last eve-uing and he appeared before the Court this morning charged with receiving £l3 12s on terms requiring him to account for the money to his senior Air Bennett and did fraudeutly omit to do so. Detective Murray, in asking for .a remand it i'll November 4, stated that Symons now admitted that the story was untrue and- that the, injuries he sustained were self-inflicted.
