RADIO PROGRAMME

This evening, IYA will broadcast a studio concert by the Auckland Orphans’ Club Orchestra and, as usual, a particularly fine programme has been arranged. Of .special .interest will be a sea charity to be played by the Orchestra, conducted by Mr Trevor Sparling, who arranged the music. Orphan Frank Campbell wilt sing several ballads while, humour will ..be given by Orphan Cedric Zahaia.who is well known 1 to the followers of the “Litt'e Theatre Society." 2YA will relay from the-Opera House, Wanganui, a concert by the Wanganui Cairison Band. Professor Toeker will be the lecturer on 3YA’s International Programme, speaking on ’’The Economic Situation of Germany.’’ Silent day at 4YA. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30th. Mr Rex Harrison, well known baritone from Christchurch, has been specially engaged to appear on lYA’s programme this evening, and he will sing the ‘‘Prologue” from “I Pagliacci,’’ “Tangi,” and “Waiata Maori.” The other vocalist for the evening will be Miss Minifred Johnson, well known Auckland contralto. Orchestral music will be provided by [Reg. Morgan and his Orchestra, and, as usual, some very fine and varied items have been’ included. Mr Dan Flood will provide a humorous interlude. 2YA’s variety programme should prove acceptable to all listeners. The Orchestrina will play the overture ‘‘Southern Star,” the selection “On with the Dance,” the suite “Three .Light Pieces” and the fantasia “Vision of Salome.” A feature of the programme will be the performance by Mr R. <M. Strathmore fconcertina virtuoso) -will be heard in a number of familiar melodies. Aiso on this programme will be Master Stewart Adair (boy soprano). The major portion of the vocal items will be given by the Lyric Quartet who will be heard in solos and quartettes. A recital of negro spirituals and plantation 'songs wilr be featured at 3YA this evening by Hubert Carter (tenor), Mrs Esme Stevens (soprano), Miss Nancy Bo\yden (contralto),. Mr Finlay Robb (baritone) and Miss Lilian .Harper (at the piano). 'Also on -the evening’s programme will be Mr. Clive; Hindle (baritone), the Rangiora Hawaiian Orchestra and a trio (Gladys Vincent, Francis Bate and Merle Miller). Mr Te Ari Pifama will give a talk on “Maori Customs. ’ At 4YA, Mr Arthur Gordon’s Dance Band will be playing popular hits and the latest dance tunes. Popular quartettes will be sung by the Happy Four and there ,will be solos by Miss Mary 'Somerville '(contralto) and ,Mr G; .Crawford (tenor). The Radiettes will contribute their share of the programme in song, patter and dance.
