TASMAN RACE

SIX ENTRIES LIKELY. AUCKLAND, October 24. Mr Erling Tambs, owner of the Norwegian yacht Teddy, will take part in the l trans-Tasman race again next year. In the meantime he will take a two-months’ cruise around the ToriganIslands, and will return to Auckland at the dud of the year to prepare for the trans-Tasman race. , “T have no particular plans for this cruise, I just thought I would like to look at the Friendly Islands,” said Mr Tambs. As -soon as there is fair weather and a southerly wind I will he away. After being ait Auckland for nearly ten months it- would be ridiculous to leave on a bad*day.” Mrs Tambs and both her children, including the baby daughter born in Auckland, will go on the cruise, but Air Tamb’s dog, ~ “Spare Provisions,” which lias a ways accompanied them in the past, will he left with friends of Ais master at Devon port.

'QUESTION OiF handicapping . Mr Tamils said he' would make first for Tgnga, and later would visit Vavau and Nukualofa. Probably he would return to Auckland for Christmas, hut might, not arrive here until the beginning of January. Teddy had been thoroughly overhauled and cleaned and on' his return very little work would be required before the race. “Probably there will be about six boats in this year’s race, and I like that- very much,*’ comtimued Air Tambs. “I hope there will be no engines this time. It is impossible to handicap boats with an engine agaimst sailing vessels. Teddy can go alongside any sailing craft of her size or a good deal bigger, but with a number of calms at the start, a. boat with an engine might be there before I had started.” After reaching Sydney at the end of the race, Air Tambs will commence his long homeward journey.
