It is recalled that Lord Harewood recently sacrificed a Canning jewel, which traditionally was a gift by a Prince of the -House of Medici to one of the Mogul Emperors. It was found in the treasury of the King of Oudh. when Delhi was taken during the Indian Mutiny, and came into the possession of Lord Canning, the first Viceroy. Later is passed to Lord Harewood. It is also announced that taxation is compelling Lord Durham to close Lambton Castle. He is probably selling the ancestral paintings including Lawrence’s ‘‘Reed Boy" for which he refused an American offer of eighty thousand sterling last- year. .Lord Sackville is selling two of Reynold's portraits from his famous collection at Knale Park.
