AL CAPONE SENTENCED. (United Pres? Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) CHICAGO, October 24. A 1 Capone, the gangster leader, on Saturday was ' 'sentenced to 11 years' imprisonment and fined 50,000 dollars. In addition he must pay the costs of the prosecution following his conviction for evasion of the income tax laws. Counsel for the defence announced that, an appeal would be taken. -Meanwhile Capone has been sent to prison. Apart from the sentence and fine, Capone must pay 100,000 dollars and 137,328 dollars due for back income taxes. ' It was a smashing blow to the gangster chief, vho tried to take it with a smile,, but which proved wry. Capone will spend the week-end in gaol, after "'hieh lie will petition the Circuit ■Court of Appeals for release on baii, poinding his apperd fmn ’the Court's decision. Capone's sentence was "big news" in Chicago; The man on the street thought all along that "He is too big for that. He has got too much money and too much influence.”
