RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23rd. This evening’s studio concert at IYA will be provided by the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. Every year these young people, although afflicted with loss of sight, g:ve excellent concerts from the station. They have a small baud, jazz band, school choir and several excellent soloists, combining to give a programme that should appeal to listeners. The Jubilee Institute is doing excellent work for the blind of New Zealand and one of the major activities i$ a study of music.
The concert from 2YA will be of a variety nature. Mr Reg. Blow (baritone) wl'.fl sing . “Trooper Johnny Ludlow,” “Absent,’’ “Crown of the Yeai” and “Tommy Lad.” Miss Mabel Dyer (contralto) and Mr Edgar Swain (tenor) will also be heard in solos and duets. Two humorous items will be given by Mr Len Ashton, and the Orchestrina and Mrs Mildred Kenny’s Guitar Trio will entertain with light popular airs. 3YA’s programme will be of a miscellaneous nature, contributed by the Valencia 'Quartet (Miss Lucy Fulhvood, M'ss Jean Johnson, Mr T. G. Rogers an,d IMr ; E. J. Johnson), Miss Mamie Qttey (piano novelty artiste) and the Studio Octet under Mr Harold Beck.
A diversified programme will be sent over .the air,, from 4YA, there being piano-accordeon solos, cornet solos, and dulcitone numbers on the .instrumental side, and tenor, contralto, and bassbaritone on 'the vocal* side, supported by the popular humorist, Mr James Paterson. A new artist wi'i'l appear, in the person of Miss Doreen Sheehy. Of considerable interest to listeners should be tfie presentation of dulcitone solos by Mr Thos. J. Kirk-Burnnand. Mr KirkBurnnfind will play on this instrument such well known and popular airs as "Bells of St. Mary’s,” “The First Noel,” and “Minuet” (by Paderewski), “Oh Dem Golden Slippers,” “Steal Away,” “0, Susanna” and “Aloha Oe.” The dulcitone <is a beautiful instrument for broadcasting purposes, and the presentation this evening will have the added interest of being a novelty.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24th. : IYA will this evening relay the Muni-, cipal Band concert to ibe given in the , Auckland Town' Hall. The 2YA Salon Orchestra will provide a light programme. As, a piano solo with string accompaniment, “Wedding Cake ' Waltz’’ (by Saint Saeps) will be played by Mr M. T. Dixon. The popular Melody Four will again entertain with quartettes and solos. Features will be “Kentucky' ißaby,” “Collette,” and “I Heard You go by.” 'Berthold and Bent, guitar duo, will also be included on the* programme in a budget of up-to-date melodies. The concert will be followed by a session of dance music, ‘To-night, 4YA and 3YA will - take listeners back thirty years or so to enjoy one of those great f annual entertainments, the annual concert and dance, Which set the whole countryside on the gold fields in a whirl for weeks before, and for days after. There were those healthy and vigorous dances—the Caledonians, lancers, quadrilles, waltz, barndance, highland schottische, etc,. The evening’s entertainment will be relayed from the Savoy, Dunedin. .
