DRUNKEN SEAMEN
CAUSES DAMAGE ON SHIP. (By Telegraph—Per Pres A'•social i>n 1 WELLINGTON, October 23. Travelling to Wei ington by the Maori on Wednesday, George Reed, a seaman. aged 19, went on the bridge and said lie wanted to steer the ship. Alter being put off he went to the engine room but was quickly turned out. Later it was discovered that the log line had been cut through and the patent log lost. Also that a compass aft was damaged, a pivot having boon removed. This all happened through Reed being under the influence of liquor. When arrested ho had £5 in his possession and Mr Rage S.M., to-day fined him that amount and ordered him to make good the,damage he had done, which was assessed at £8; • -
