INTERFERED WITH LIBERTY OF CITIZENS. iili I INVERCARGILL; October 21. A bylaw recently passed by the Invercargill City Council was upset by Mr E. E. Levyy, S.M., in the Magis- ■ tratebs • Court to-day' He held that on the merits @f the particular circumstances ventilated, the by-law prohibiting a.n v person in premises adjoining or near any street, footpath or publicplace from playing any gramophone or musical instrument so as to cause annoyance tp persons in or near sucii street, .footpath,’ or public place was too .wide in its application and encroached on ,the rights and liberties of citizens. - * - The Magistrate decided that the bylaw was unreasonable and that the first prosecution for a breach of its provisions brought against a local firm must accordingly fail.
