UNEMPLOYMENT LEVY
A NOTHER. INSTALMENT DUE UN
Ist. NOVEMBER. Every male person in New Zealand aged 20 years of over, and those who attain that age while the Unemployment Act is in force, are, unless exempted, liable for payment of another instalment of the Unemployment Levy, which will become due on Ist. November. Payment (of the amount (ss) must be made at a money-order office.
Employers have a direct responsibility with regard to payment of the levy by their employees, and the Unemployment Amendment Act gives them authority to deduct from the wages of an employee the amount of any instalment that is overdue for more than one month. Should an unregistered employee, or one who is in arrears for one month in payment of the levy, be kept in employment for more than seven days the employer is liable to a fine of £2O. •Default in payment of, the Levy for more than one month renders a person liable, on summary conviction, to a fine, of £5, and he will also be liable, without conviction;! to a penalty of 6d for every- month or part of a month after the first month during which the levy is not paid.. The maximum of this latter penalty is 2s 6d.
