SILVER COINAGE
NEW ZEALAND MANUFACTURE. NOT POSSIBLE AT PRESENT. It is not possible at present /to make arrangements lor the redemption ol tile Imperial coinage in circulation in New Zealand, according to information received from London ny thq, Prime Minister, fit. Mon. G. IV. Forbes. A reply to this effect lias been sent by Air Forbes to a deputation from the "Wellington Chamber of Commerce which waited upon him recently.
“Under the circumstances,” Mr Forbes states, “the possibilities of making a profit are confined to the ad. ditionul coins required from time (o time. Further, it is understood that to manufacture these coins in New Zealand would mean little if any, saving over and above the share of profits now received from th e Royal Mint. Ac. cordinglv, it is not proposed to pursue the matter any further at present, although the question will not be overlooked when circumstances are more favourable.”
