STEWARDS’ UNION PROTEST. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 9.25 a.m) SYDNEY, October 17
The Federated Stewards Union sent a letter to the Seamens Union expressing the deepest resentment at the Seamen Union’s attitude in laying up the Canberra and Wear which is described ns farcical, and nothing •short of imbecility. It emphasises any man who claims to have been victimised and caused the strike himself. victimises the whole erew and their depends nts. The proper course was to refer the dispute to kindred Unions, who in this instance were not consulted. This indescriminate forcing of men out of employment at a. time when ships are as scarce as sovereigns, is most reprehensible, and is playing into tile hands of the shipping companies.
