HOKITIKA CYCLING CLUB
The annual meeting of the Hokitika Cycling Club took place in Keller’s Rooms last evening. Present: —Messrs J. J. Williams, R. Lynn, R. Collett, J. Honey, C. Cook, S. Havill, J. Pierson, A. Martin, J. Havill, E. Cook, E. Olsen, E. Best and Secretary. The minutes of the last meeting and annual meeting were read and confirmed.
The Treasurer reported a credit balance standing at £8 13s 7d in hand. —Received.
The President (Mr J. J. Williams) in his report stated that the Club for its first season had been exceedingly active. Considerable public interest had been shown at its meetings and road races. Two sports meetings had been hald in Cass Square and about a dozen road races. The Club were in a good positon financially, thanks to generous response to subscription lists at New Year and a dance held by Arahura enthusisast in their hall. Handsome cups had been donated by Mr A. Gillman and Mr J. Turner, medals by Alessrs R. Lynn, R. Collett, and G. Sutherland. The Press had given every assistance.—Received. The following officers were elected: — Patron :—Air IV. Keller. President:—Mr J. Davern. Vice-Presidents:—Mrs I. Brown, Messrs A. Gillman, E. C. Toohey, and L. S. Ross. Treasurer:—Air R. Lynn (re-elect-ed). Secretary:—Mr W. Rowe (re-elect-ed).
Handicapper:—Mr J. J. Williams (re-elected). Starter :—Air J. Davern (re-elected.) Referee:—Air R. Collett (re-elected). The subscriptions were fixed the same as last season.
It was decided to affilate with the Centre again tins season, and to apply for New Year’s Day. It was decided to open the Club’s activities with a Gillman Cup race to Woodstock and back on Saturday 17th, if sufficient entries are offering. To stimulate interest for back markers in road races, (the GiU-man Cup lias not been won from scratch yeti a suitable trophy is to be procuicd by the Club, to be won by the rider gaining the greatest number of fastest times for the season.
General support was in favour of an annual race between Greymouth and Hokitika, and before further correspondence with the Greymouth Club, it was decided that the Secretary write for onrticulr.rs re the offer of a Memorial Cup by the bereaved family ol a foremost cvcling supporter, which would be a 11 tting cup for such a race. The meeing closed with a motion of thanks to Mr Keller for the use of his room for meetings, and the Press for generous support.
