LATE LOCALS. A gang of safe-blowers is at work In Christchurch. During the week-end, attempts were made on the offices of the Butler Timber Company and the S'tate Coal Depot, though in neither case did the thieves get anything. At the Butler Timber Company’s premises in Mandeville Boat! the door of the safe was blown open with an explosion that aroused the residents for a considerable distance around. The safe at the State Coal Yard was open, and articles left by the thieves on the premises indicate that the attempt was the work of the same men.
