RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) MONDAY, OCTOBER 12th. IYA Auckland will this evening be broadcasting wrestling—Pinto v. Walker. An item of outstanding interest on 2YA’s programme will be the performance of the famous quartette from "Rigoletlo”' by Mesdames Amy Woodward and Wilfred Andrews, Messrs Denis IShea.rd and Keith Grant. Mr Grant is a baritone who has fulfilled a series of contracts with the Australian radio stations, as well as appearing as soloist with some of the chief musical societies of Australia and at Newcastle Cathedral. Miss Nora Gray will play the j First ’Movement of Tschaikowsky’s brilliant
“Concerto in li Flat Minor’’ with orchestral accompaniment. The Orchestrina will accompany Miss Ava Symons in the delightful little “Serenade” (by Drdla), besides playing two selections. At 7.45, from 3YA, Mr Te Ari Pitama will give a talk entitled “One Hundred Years Ago,’ his remarks having special reference to the celebrations to be held on October 24, 25, and 26, in connection with the centenary of the sacking of the Ivaiapoliia Pah by Te Rauparaha. The Christchurch Saxophone Band, under Mr H. G. Glaysher—a combination of some thirty players— will provide the main portion of 3YA’s programme. Assisting artists will bp Miss 'Freda Judkins (soprano), Miss Hilda Andrews (mezzo-soprano), Mr H. J. Francis (tenor), Mr Jack Blair (songs at the piano) and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. Mr G. C. Billing, Lecturer on Economics at Otago University, will speak during 4‘YA’s International Programme this evening on “The Possible benefit of an International Bank.” TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13th. The speaker oh the IYA International Programme this evening will be Mr J. W. iShavv, M.A. He will speak on “Humour Amongst the Nations.’’ Community Singing in Wellington will close with a session this evening. 2Y.v will relay. Tile song-leaders will be Mr and Mrs Albert .Russell, Mr Owen Pritchard, Mr Chas. Webb, and Mr Wml Mason. Mr Frank Crowther will be at the piano. There have been many requests for a night'. Community Sing, and this occasion will, be an opportunity for listeners to have a real jovial evening- | From 12.30 to 1.30 p.m. 3YA will be I broadcasting community singing, observe a silent night. The Dunedin Garrison Artillery Band, under Mr H. Davey, w:th vocal numbers by 4YA artists, ' will provide the pro-; gramme from the Dunedin Station. The singers wid be Miss R. Cunclift (mezzo-1 soprano), Miss Irene Horniblow (contralto), and Mr F. E. Woods (bass). Mr. J. McCaw will (contribute saxophone solos and ns a piano solo Mrs C. Drake •will play “Rush Hour in Hong Kong.’’
