The Dunedin Jockey Club’s second spring meeting opened in fine weather hut heavy rain 'set in before the seventh race. For the Mao Lean Stakes, 111 youngsters went to the post, and the Dunedin-owned filly Wealth scored a popular win. In the Guineas, Cricket Bat took the lead three furlongs from home and won easily. A.J.C. MEETING.
SYDNEY, October 11. The A.J.C. spring meeting at Randwick concluded to-day jll line, cool weather. The attendance was twentysix thousand. The track was in splendid order. First Acre made a bold bid for victory in the Waverly Handicap, appearing to have the race in his keeping at the distance, but he failed to stall off a fast-finishing effort by Veilmond in the filial strides. Canonbury Stakes. —Apparel 1 ; Bcnowned 2; Milantheon 3. Mon by two lengths. Waverly Handicap.—Veilmond 1; Strength 2; First Acre 3. Veilmond was favourite. Sasckbut led in the early stages from First Acre, Talkie, Salvateion, and Pliilipic. First Acre ran to the front smartly at the turninng/for home from Maurice Bede, Strength, and Concentrate. At the distance First Acre appeared to have the race won, but was unable to withstand a splendid finishing run by Veilmond, which carried him to. victory by a length. Time 3.4. Dowling Steeplechase.—Burra form 1; Congoola 2; Scottish March 3. In a close race Congoola won, but lost the race owing to interference in the straight. Time 4.431. Randwick Plate.—Phar Lap 9.3, (Pike) 1; Chide 9.4, (Cook) 2. These wore the only starters. Phar Lap took the lend passing the mile and ran home the winner, on the bit, by four lengths. Ammon Ra had an effortless win in the Caulfield Guineas. Local enthusiasts are eager to see Ammon Ra oppose Phar Lap in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley. Results
